Shri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan

Shri Banke Bihari Ji is the most visited temple in Vrindavan — and the one where timing matters most. The temple runs on a summer schedule and a winter schedule, closes for a long break in the middle of the day, and gets extremely crowded on weekends and festivals.

Below are the commonly published timings, plus the practical tips we give every family we take to Vrindavan.

Important

The temple management has been changing darshan hours and crowd arrangements in recent years. Check the official temple website or ask us on WhatsApp the day before your visit.

Is there a mangla aarti at Banke Bihari?

Unlike most Krishna temples, Banke Bihari does not hold a daily mangla (early-morning) aarti. Tradition says Bihari Ji is treated like a child who stays up late playing the Raas, so he is not woken early. Mangla aarti is held only once a year, on Janmashtami night.

Another unique custom: the curtain in front of the deity is drawn open and closed every few moments. Devotees believe a long, unbroken gaze at Bihari Ji's eyes can be overwhelming, so darshan happens in short glimpses.

Best time for darshan

  • Best: weekday mornings, 30–45 minutes after the doors open.
  • Good: weekday evenings, soon after opening.
  • Avoid if you can: Saturdays, Sundays, Ekadashi, Purnima, long weekends and the days around Holi, Janmashtami and Diwali.

If you're coming from Delhi on a day trip, leave by 5:30–6:00 AM so you reach before the morning darshan closes. Our one-day Mathura Vrindavan itinerary is planned around these timings.
