Mathura Vrindavan One Day Itinerary by Car (From Delhi, Noida & Agra)
A realistic same-day plan that fits Krishna Janmabhoomi, Banke Bihari, ISKCON and Prem Mandir into one day — built around temple opening hours.

Yes, you can see Mathura and Vrindavan in one day — but only if you plan around the temples' midday break. Most big temples in Braj close for a few hours around noon and reopen in the late afternoon, so the order you visit them in matters more than how fast you drive.
This is the same route our drivers follow on same-day trips from Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon and Agra. It covers the main darshan places without rushing, and leaves time for a proper lunch.

Is one day enough for Mathura and Vrindavan?
One day is enough for the main temples of Mathura and Vrindavan. It is not enough for Govardhan, Barsana, Nandgaon or Gokul — those need a second day.
- One day: Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish, Vishram Ghat, Banke Bihari, Radha Raman, Nidhivan, ISKCON, Prem Mandir.
- Two days: add Govardhan, Radha Kund, Barsana and Nandgaon on Day 2.
- Three days or more: add Gokul, Mahavan, Baldeo and a slower pace for seniors.
Good to know
From Delhi the drive is about 3–3.5 hours each way, so a same-day trip is a long day (12–14 hours). With elderly parents, a 2-day trip is far more comfortable.
The one-day timeline (hour by hour)
This timeline assumes you start from Delhi or Noida. From Agra, start around 6:30–7:00 AM instead — the drive is only 1–1.5 hours.
| Time | Place | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 5:30 AM | Leave Delhi / Noida | Take the Yamuna Expressway; breakfast on the way or carry it |
| 8:30 AM | Krishna Janmabhoomi, Mathura | Darshan at Krishna's birthplace; phones are not allowed inside |
| 9:45 AM | Dwarkadhish Temple & Vishram Ghat | Short darshan and a walk to the Yamuna ghat |
| 10:45 AM | Drive to Vrindavan (about 30 min) | Park on the main road and take an e-rickshaw into the lanes |
| 11:15 AM | Banke Bihari Temple | Reach before the morning darshan closes (around 12–1 PM) |
| 12:00 PM | Radha Raman / Radha Vallabh | Both are close to Banke Bihari in the old town |
| 1:00 PM | Lunch & rest | Temples are mostly closed now — eat and rest in the cab |
| 4:00 PM | Nidhivan & Seva Kunj | Visit in daylight; both close in the evening |
| 5:00 PM | ISKCON (Krishna Balaram Mandir) | Evening kirtan and darshan |
| 6:30 PM | Prem Mandir | Stay for the evening lights; check the light-show timing on the day |
| 8:00 PM | Drive back | Reach Delhi / Noida around 11 PM |
Morning in Mathura: Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish and Vishram Ghat
Start in Mathura because it is on the way from Delhi and Agra, and Krishna Janmabhoomi is calmer early in the morning.
Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi
The temple complex marks the place where Lord Krishna was born in a prison cell. Security is strict: mobile phones, bags, cameras and electronic items are not allowed inside, so leave them in the cab. See our Krishna Janmasthan temple guide.
Dwarkadhish Temple and Vishram Ghat
The Dwarkadhish temple is in the old city near the Yamuna. From there it's a short walk to Vishram Ghat, where Krishna is said to have rested after defeating Kansa. Lanes here are narrow, so your driver will drop you close by and wait. More in our Dwarkadhish temple guide.
Late morning in Vrindavan: Banke Bihari and the old temples
Vrindavan is about 12–15 km from Mathura. Cars cannot enter the narrow lanes around Banke Bihari, so plan for a short e-rickshaw ride or walk from the parking area.
- Banke Bihari: the most visited temple in Vrindavan. Darshan happens in short glimpses as the curtain opens and closes. Reach well before the morning closing time — see Banke Bihari temple timings.
- Radha Raman: one of the oldest temples in Vrindavan, a few minutes' walk away.
- Radha Vallabh: also in the old town; easy to add if crowds at Banke Bihari are light.
Crowd tip
Weekends, Ekadashi and festival days are very crowded at Banke Bihari. On a weekday morning you'll often get darshan in 15–30 minutes; on a festival day it can take hours.
Lunch and the midday break
Between roughly 1 PM and 4 PM most temples are closed. Use this time for lunch at a sattvic restaurant or ashram bhojanalaya, and a rest in the AC cab. Vrindavan food is pure vegetarian; onion and garlic are often not used.
Don't try to fit Govardhan into this gap on a same-day trip — it's about an hour away and you'll be late for the evening darshan.
Evening: Nidhivan, ISKCON and Prem Mandir
- Nidhivan and Seva Kunj: sacred groves linked to Krishna's Raas Leela. Both are closed in the evening, so visit them first in the afternoon.
- ISKCON (Krishna Balaram Mandir): known for its kirtan; the evening darshan is lively and well organised.
- Prem Mandir: a white marble temple that is lit up after sunset. The evening is the best time to see it.

Want this exact plan with a car and driver?
We'll pick you up from Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon or Agra and follow this route.
Doing it from Agra instead of Delhi
From Agra, Mathura is only about 60 km (1–1.5 hours) on NH-19. That means a relaxed 7 AM start, and you can be back in Agra by 9 PM after Prem Mandir.
Remember the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays — many travellers use Friday for Mathura Vrindavan. See our 1 day Mathura Vrindavan tour from Agra.
Practical tips for a same-day trip
- Start early — the morning darshan window is the one most people miss.
- Wear slip-on footwear; you'll remove shoes at every temple.
- Carry small cash for e-rickshaws, shoe stands and prasad.
- Keep your phone in the car at Krishna Janmabhoomi.
- Dress modestly — shoulders and knees covered.
- Check temple timings the day before, especially in summer/winter changeover and festival weeks.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cover Mathura and Vrindavan in one day from Delhi?
Yes. Leave Delhi by 5:30–6:00 AM, visit Mathura first, then Vrindavan, and return after the evening darshan. It's a 12–14 hour day, so two days is better for seniors and small children.
Which temple should I visit first, Mathura or Vrindavan?
Coming from Delhi or Agra, visit Mathura first (Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish) because it's on the way, then reach Vrindavan before Banke Bihari's morning darshan closes.
Can I add Govardhan on the same day?
It's possible only with a very early start and a rushed day. We recommend keeping Govardhan, Radha Kund and Barsana for a second day.
Are phones allowed in the temples?
Phones and bags are not allowed inside Krishna Janmabhoomi. Photography is restricted in many other temples, including Banke Bihari. Keep valuables in your cab.
