For many families, a Mathura Vrindavan trip is a gift to their parents — a darshan they've wanted for years. With a little planning, it can be comfortable even for parents who can't walk much.

These are the things we plan for every senior-citizen trip we run.

Choose a longer trip with a slower pace

The biggest mistake is squeezing everything into one day. From Delhi, a same-day trip means 6–7 hours in the car plus temple walking. For seniors, plan 2–3 days:

  1. Day 1: Travel, check in, rest; evening darshan at one or two temples.
  2. Day 2: Mathura temples in the morning, rest in the afternoon, Vrindavan in the evening.
  3. Day 3: Govardhan by car (no walking parikrama) and Barsana, then return.

How much walking is involved?

Most walking happens in the old lanes of Vrindavan, where cars can't go. Expect 300–800 metres of walking to reach temples like Banke Bihari and Radha Raman, plus standing in queues.

  • Use e-rickshaws to get as close as possible to the temple gate.
  • Visit crowded temples on weekday mornings to keep queue time short.
  • Some temples have steps; ask your driver about the easiest entrance.
  • If your parent uses a wheelchair, tell us when booking so we plan accessible stops — the old-town lanes are crowded and uneven, so ISKCON and Prem Mandir are much easier than Banke Bihari.

Pick a hotel close to the temples

A hotel or ashram near the main temple area cuts down daily travel and lets your parents rest in the afternoon. Look for a lift, ground-floor rooms, and western-style toilets if needed.

Ask us for options — we book hotels close to the temples as part of our packages.

Choose the right car

  • Innova Crysta — the most comfortable for 3–6 people on long drives; easy to get in and out of.
  • Tempo Traveller / Urbania — for bigger families; more legroom and space for a folded wheelchair.
  • Ask for a driver who knows the drop-off points closest to each temple.

See all options on our taxi hire page.

Health and comfort checklist

  • Carry regular medicines, a copy of prescriptions and doctor's numbers.
  • Keep water, glucose or ORS and light snacks in the car.
  • Summer (April–June) is very hot — plan temple visits only in early morning and evening.
  • Winter mornings (Dec–Jan) are cold and foggy — carry warm layers, caps and socks.
  • Avoid festival days (Holi, Janmashtami) — crowds can be dangerous for elderly visitors.
  • Comfortable slip-on footwear and a light shawl for temples.

Planning a trip for your parents?

We plan senior-friendly routes with short walks, rest breaks and hotels near the temples.

ISKCON VrindavanEasy — car drops near the gate, open spaces
Prem MandirEasy — wide paths, benches, evening lights

Frequently asked questions

Is Vrindavan suitable for elderly people?

Yes, with planning. Choose a 2–3 day trip, a hotel near the temples, weekday visits and e-rickshaws for the narrow lanes.

Can senior citizens do Govardhan parikrama?

Walking 21 km is hard for most seniors, but the parikrama can be done by car with stops at the main temples.

Are wheelchairs allowed in Vrindavan temples?

Many temples can be reached with help, but old-town lanes are crowded and uneven. ISKCON and Prem Mandir are the easiest. Tell us in advance so we can plan.

Which car is best for elderly parents?

An Innova Crysta is the most comfortable for small families; a Tempo Traveller works well for larger groups.
